Preliminary project

As I mentioned previously for my preliminary project I intended to do a skate magazine ad.
I drew my inspiration from an ad made by Violet state, a company founded and owned by filmer and director William Strobeck, who became known for his unique style of filming for Supreme skate videos.

The brand is known for it’s simplistic designs and bold use of the color violet.
Other brands tend to use intricate designs, drawings and logos to accompany photos, but here all we can see is a bold, simple phrase, and a little logo in the middle, not advertising anything in particular other than the achievements of Troy Gibson, one of their team riders.
In my magazine ad I opted for the same bold writing, inserted a few photos showing me doing tricks on a ledge, and created a skate brand to accompany my photos as all ads must more or less center around a brand.

I wanted to capture that essence of simplicity from the Violet add, that’s why I wrote over the photos in bold letters.
All photos were done in one session with an Iphone 15.
Some challenges I faced during the photoshoot were,
-the weather, it was really cold outside, and I had to constantly run around and stretch to keep warm.
-tricks, while doing the photos I had to do the tricks, nothing was faked. Sometimes I didn't land some, and we couldn't take photos, it was quite frustrating.
-phone battery, we started the photoshoot with 60% battery and finished it with 5%. I'll never make this mistake again in future photoshoots, whenever I'll shoot I will be sure to start with full battery. Better safe than sorry.
